Pajama Fabrics
The differences in pajama fabrics do range but they all have a common denominator, which is an interest in comfort.
Bamboo
Bamboo is the newest fabric of the 20th century. It is a natural textile made from the pulp of bamboo grass. This fabric is not only light and strong but it is more sustainable than most textile fibers. It is growing in popularity because of its unique properties. It resembles cotton but it has a component of having an antibacterial quality. It is great for people with allergic reactions to other natural fibers, since it is non-irritating. This fabric is very soft and it is also highly water absorbent, it's able to take up to three times its weight in water.
Cotton
The quality of cotton is measured in therms of the length and finess of the lint. Egypptian type cotton, grown mainly in Egypt, the Sudan and Aden, is the finest (a length more than 1 1/8 inch). They are strong and silky. It commands the highest prices and constitutes only about 5% of world production. About 95% of U.S cotton yields fibers between 7/8 to 1 1/8 inch long. There are many advantages of cotton pajamas. They are lightweight, warm, comfortable, soft breathable and affordable.
Sateen Cotton
A smooth durable lustrous fabric made of cotton in satin weave. This type of weave places most of the threads on the surface, which yields to a sleek, satin-like finish. Satteen cotton pajamas are soft and luxurious and give a heightened sense of style.
Polyester
The purpose of polyester pajamas is for the strength, wrinkle-resistant and durability in the fabric. These fabrics have a reputation of being itchy and uncomfortable, however today's polyester has much improved in comfort with today's micro-fibers and poly blends.
Silk
silk is anatural fiber with the highest quality of comfort so it cost more than other materials. This fabric is very luxurious with a loose and flowing type of comfort.
Flannel
Flannel is a wool-based fabric, which provides maximum warmth. These pajamas are usually made with a combination of wool and cotton or synthetic materials. They are very cozy and are a great choice for the winter months.
Terrycloth
This cotton fabric is the most popular choice for bathrobes, due to its excellent moisture-absorbant attribute.
Chenille
This fabric is also common in robes and it is produced by either wool, cotton, silk or a rayon yarn. It has a protruding pile-face fabric, giving it the hairy look. They are fuzzy, but very comfortable.
We hope this little tid-bit of pajama fabrics was somewhat useful, and wish you happy pajama hunting.
